He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the local Awami League council programme at Tetulia of Porsha upazila of Naogaon, said a PID handout.
“The country is now self-reliant in food,” the minister said, adding that there was good harvest this year also. The country’s workers and agriculture communities produced crop with their hard labour and so the labour can never to waste. At the same time, monitoring has been geared up so that the consumers do not have to buy rice at excessive price.
Referring to rice-paddy procurement in government godowns, he said rice will not be procured from anyone except the genuine farmers. Political leaders as well as influential people would have no place during purchase of government rice and paddy.
The Food Minister said directive was also given so that the growers, while selling rice, are not harassed. Besides, if anyone resorted to irregularities, action would be taken against him, he warned.
He informed that an ‘app for the farmers’ has been launched in 16 upazilas on trial basis to make the rice and paddy purchase easier and digitalised.
