The Overseas Correspondents Association Bangladesh (OCAB), a Dhaka-based organisation of journalists working for global media outlets, on Saturday expressed deep shock at the death of its former general secretary and veteran journalist Amir Khasru.
In a statement, Ocab said that the country lost a prominent journalist who had decades of experience in covering politics, diplomacy and international affairs.
Ocab President Nazrul Islam said: Khasru was “a dedicated journalist who served the nation with distinction.”
“His contribution to major outlets like Voice of America, daily Ittefaq and Sangbad left an indelible mark on Bangladeshi journalism. He was not just a colleague but a mentor and a friend to many,” he said.
OCAB prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family, wishing them strength and patience to bear the irreparable loss.
Khasru, a former correspondent of Voice of America, breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment. He was 64.
He had long been suffering from kidney and liver complications. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
