The programme is scheduled to begin at 4pm in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
Oikya Prokriya member secretary ABM Mostafa Amin announced the fresh programme at a press conference at its Dhanmondi office as the government did not respond to its three-point demand within the given time that expired on Saturday.
“Oikya Prokriya will continue its efforts to unite people, the country’s owners, with a goal to restore their voting rights. We’ll force the government to meet people’s demands by creating a mass upsurge in a non-violent way...we’ll form a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 4pm on October 7 to achieve the goal,” Amin said.
He said they will also announce their next course of action from the Human Chain programme.
The Oikya Prokriya member secretary called upon all democracy-loving people to make their programme a success with their participation.
Earlier, on Sept 22, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya from a citizens’ rally in the city gave the government until September 30 to meet its three-point demand, including steps for the formation of an election-time neutral government through discussions with political parties.
Their two other demands are taking effective steps for reconstituting the Election Commission and dissolving parliament before the announcement of the election schedule.
Amin said the government did not take any step within the given deadline for forming a non-party neutral election-time government. “A fair election where people’s opinion will be reflected is not possible to hold under a partisan government.”
The Jatiya Oikya Prokriya convener called upon the government to take steps for incorporating the election-time neutral government system through amending the Constitution to ensure people’s voting rights and overcome the current crisis.
“The country’s people expect that the government will play a responsible role, and take steps for holding an acceptable election. Under the current context of the country, a fair and inclusive election is not possible without formation of an election-time government,” he observed.
On behalf of Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, Amin renewed their demand for forming an election-time non-party neutral government through talks with all relevant stakeholders.
Otherwise, he warned, the government will have to shoulder all the responsibilities if any chaos and instability is created in society due to its failure to accept the demand.
