A circular bus service for the dwellers of the old part of Dhaka will be launched on test basis in the last week of December, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Monday.
He came up with the remark at a meeting of the steering committee formed to rationalise the bus routes in the capital in the afternoon.
The DSCC mayor said the committee is now working in full swing although its activities slowed down slightly due to the national election and the dengue outbreak.
He expressed the hope that the number of bus routes will be finalised by March next. “We hope that we’ll be able to make the pilot project visible within the stipulated period of two years.”
Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Dr Md Kamrul Ahsan, public transport specialist Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed and Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mofiz Uddin Ahmed were, among others, present at the meeting.
