Khaibor Ali, 42, son of Nozir Hossain of village Horindhora under Datbhanga union, was part of a group of 10-12 Bangladeshi cattle traders who crossed the border at Datbhanga to bring back cattle from India- which is illegal - early in the morning.
At one point, they were forced to hide in order to avoid border patrols. Khaibor apparently found himself on the other side of the border by mistake, and was spotted by BSF’s Kukurmora camp members, who gave chase.
As BSF – a trigger-happy force who killed 46 Bangladeshis in 2019 - closed in, Khaibor made it to a bridge on the Jinjiram river, and jumped in.
He remained missing for the rest of the morning. It would be around 2.30 in the afternoon that BGB would recover the body from the Jinjiram.
Confirming the incident, Lt Col SK Azad, Director of 35 BGB Battalion, Jamalpur, said that the body was handed over to police.
