The primary responsibility of the police is to serve the people and enhance the image of the police force through positive work for the nation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali said on Saturday.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a welfare meeting held at the Shaheed SI Shahjahan Auditorium of Public Order Management (POM) in Mirpur on Saturday.
“Our main job is to serve the people. We have to take the image of the police to a unique height by doing positive work for the people of this country,” said the DMP Commissioner.

“We must forget all the hardships and continue working for the people of the country,” he added.
The Commissioner further emphasized the collective responsibility of every citizen, stating, “This country is yours, mine, and everyone's. We have no chance to leave everything behind. We have to turn around again. We have to serve the people of this country.” He added that the police force must work tirelessly to improve its image and serve the public with dedication."
He also underlined the importance of professionalism in all police work, saying, “Every work in the service of the people must be done with professionalism.”
“We have to dedicate ourselves to serving the people by working professionally and being free from influence,” he further added.
Faruk Ahmed, Additional Commissioner of Police (Admin), said restructuring the police force after it had collapsed in the face of changing circumstances was a significant challenge.
“We have gradually overcome these difficulties. For the benefit of both ourselves and the police force, it is essential that we fulfill our responsibilities effectively.”

The officer also expressed his optimism that, by working together, we can transform the DMP into a more modern, dynamic, and trusted institution for the public.
Joint Police Commissioner (POM) Khandaker Faridul Islam delivered the welcome speech at the welfare meeting.
The event was attended by Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md. Israil Howlader, Additional Police Commissioner (Intelligence) Rezaul Karim Mallick, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Khandaker Nazmul Hasan PPM (Bar), Additional Police Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim, Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, and other officers of various ranks from the DMP.
