At least 50 houses were damaged and several trees and electricity poles were uprooted in a sudden storm that hit Guptomunsi village under Ilisha union of Bhola Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The storm also disrupted road communication in the area and left the village without electricity. Agricultural lands, including papaya and other vegetable fields, were also damaged, causing losses to farmers.
Locals said the storm struck around 12:00pm on Saturday. The intense gust lasted only a few minutes but caused widespread destruction, uprooting hundreds of trees and electricity poles.
A local resident, Md Hiron, said a jackfruit tree along with two other trees fell near his house, causing significant damage. He also reported that the tin roof of a nearby house’s veranda and a kitchen were blown away.
