Muhammad Wasif, charge d'affaires of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka on Sunday held a courtesy meeting with Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The meeting was held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, according to a press release.
Wasif was accompanied by Zain Aziz, the high commission's trade and investment attache, and from BGMEA were present Vice President Md. Rezwan Salim, Director Faisal Samad, Director Sumaiya Islam, and Director Fahima Akter.
Discussions at the meeting focused on reinforcing bilateral trade and investment in the readymade garment and textile sectors, as well as exploring other potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The dialogue highlighted Pakistan's strong global position in textile production and Bangladesh's leading position in apparel manufacturing. Both parties discussed increasing textile imports from Pakistan and boosting exports of ready-made garments and accessories from Bangladesh to Pakistan.
BGMEA President Khan suggested that Pakistan could import textile waste from Bangladesh to meet the demands of its growing recycling industry. He further emphasised that Bangladesh, as the world's largest jute producer, could find a significant demand for its jute fiber in Pakistan, which would be mutually beneficial.
Both sides expressed agreement on collaborating through knowledge exchange, sending business delegations from both countries, and working together on exhibitions and workshops to expand trade.
They also discussed the implementation of the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BGMEA and the Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) to strengthen bilateral trade.
BGMEA President Khan stressed the critical importance of active participation from businesses in both countries for the successful implementation of this MoU.
