The Parliamentary Committee on Estimates has visited Cox’s Bazar to see the progress of of work in Cox’s Bazar Airport expansion project aimed at promoting tourism and trade in the country's premier tourist destination.
A two-member team of the committee, led by its chairman Md Abdus Shahid, expressed satisfaction seeing the progress of the project, said a press release of the Parliament Secretariat on Friday.
It also hoped that the implementation works of the project would be completed in time.
During the visit, Shahid said the airport will play an important role in attracting local and foreign tourists to the Cox’s Bazar sea beach.
The airport is being developed as part of the country's ongoing development spree under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said.
The parliamentary body expressed satisfaction over the progress of the project and hoped that its implementation works would be completed in time.
Committee member Ahsan Adelur Rahman MP (Nilphamari-4) and local MP Shaimum Sarwar Kamal (Cox’s Bazar-3) were present.
High government officials including an additional secretary of the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, the project director and the deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar as well as local public representatives were present during the visit.
