In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, India on Wednesday announced the suspension of all existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/international organisations, employment and project ones, till April 15 from Friday.
The passenger movement through Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat, Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh and Benapole land port in Jashore was suspended at 5pm.
Abida Sultana, superintendent of Lalmonithat police, said the entry of Bangladeshis to India through Burimari land port was halted at 5pm following the India’s visa suspension.
However, Indian citizens will be out of the suspension, said Anwar Hossain, sub-inspector of Burimari Land Port Immigration Police.
Moksed Ali, officer-in-charge of Banglabandha Immigration Police Station, said the movement of Bangladeshis to the neighbouring country through the port stopped after 5pm.
Meanwhile, Mehedi Hasan Babla, president of Banglabandha Land Port Exports-Imports Association, said the decision of halting passenger movement will affect the business.
Banglabandha port is mostly used for stone import from India, he said.
The travel of tourists through Benapole land port also remained suspended from 5pm.
