Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Tuesday said women are naturally creative and play a unique role in maintaining generational continuity, but patriarchal mindsets in society often obstruct their opportunities to express talent and become entrepreneurs.
He made the remarks while delivering the keynote speech at the World Women’s Conference 2026, jointly organized by Business America and Arthokontho at a hotel in the capital.
Swapon thanked the organizers, saying initiatives like this highlight existing social inequalities and ambiguities while encouraging and inspiring women entrepreneurs. He also expressed special gratitude to all the entrepreneurs involved in organizing the event.
Highlighting the significance of acknowledging women entrepreneurs, he said, Recognition of women who have established themselves as entrepreneurs is crucial, as it strengthens the trend of positive change in society.
The minister assured that the feelings and expectations of women participants would be communicated to government policymakers. Reflecting on his political experience, he cited former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as an example of a female leader who overcame numerous challenges to achieve success.
He called on women to harness their inherent creative abilities without yielding to social barriers or negative mindsets.
During the event, women entrepreneurs from various sectors were honored for their achievements.
