Police have recovered a stolen camera belonging to photojournalist Mohammad Naimur Rahman of the daily Ittefaq and arrested three suspects linked to the robbery. The operation, conducted on Saturday, in the Green View Housing area of Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, also led to the seizure of local weapons, including a machete.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yasin alias Bhaiya Yasin (20), Mohammad Shihab (22), and Mohammad Manik (20). Police confirmed that the stolen Nikon D-850 camera, its lens, and other accessories were recovered during the raid.
The robbery occurred on the night of November 13, 2024, when Rahman was walking to his elder brother’s home on Zakir Hossain Road after completing his work. Near the Suzuki Bike Center on Basila Road, four armed individuals intercepted him.
Threatened at knifepoint with a machete and a sword, Rahman was forced to surrender cash worth 7,000 taka, his national identity card, wallet, camera equipment—including the Nikon D-850 and a 24-120mm lens—his camera bag, and a mobile phone.
After Rahman formally filed a complaint with the Mohammadpur Police Station on November 16, police acted swiftly. By 5:05 pm the same day, the suspects were apprehended in Green View Housing.
Joint Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB), Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrests and recovery of the stolen items.
The arrested individuals have been presented in court, while efforts continue to apprehend a fourth suspect, Ashradul, who remains at large.
