A suspected pirate was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Veduria Ferighat area in Bhola Sadar Upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam Shafi, 40, of Kalipur village in the area.
Mohammad Kayser, superintendent of Bhola Police, said patrolling police heard gunshots in Ilisha Hawlader Market area at 3am and informed the control room.
As soon as another police team reached the area, pirates fired at them, forcing police to fire back in self-defense, the SP added.
Later, police recovered the body of Shafi and took it to Bhola General Hospital.
According to police, there were several robbery, drugs and theft cases against Shafi.
