Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed sadness to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the tragic incident of the collapse of the Morbi bridge over the Machchu river in Gujarat.
The accident occurred during Diwali celebrations which caused the unfortunate loss of many lives, including women and children.
The Prime Minister in a letter wrote to her Indian counterpart said: "I, on behalf of the Government and on my own behalf, express my deepest condolences to the Government and the people of India on this heart-wrenching tragedy.”
She also commended the efforts undertaken by the Government of India in the immediate aftermath of the incident, including the quick mobilisation of the rescue operation.
Sheikh Hasina offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls, speedy recovery of the injured persons, as well as for the bereaved families so that they have the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
“At this trying time, we stand in solidarity and support with the Government and the people of India,” she said in her letter.
