Despite a packed day of official engagements, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday night met a group of school students and teachers visiting the Jatiya Sangsad, encouraging them to study hard and prepare themselves to contribute to the country's future.

The meeting took place at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban after the Prime Minister concluded the day's Cabinet meeting, according to the Prime Minister's Press Wing.

The students, who came from Cumilla's Lalmai upazila, expressed delight at getting the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister in person.

Many of them said they had never imagined they would be able to watch parliament session or interact with the country's Prime Minister, describing the experience as one they would remember for a long time.

During the interaction, Tarique Rahman inquired after their studies and urged them to become worthy citizens through education, honesty and hard work.

He also encouraged them to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to play a meaningful role in nation-building.

The Prime Minister asked teachers to continue their efforts to guide students in becoming responsible and morally upright citizens.

As part of an initiative launched by the Prime Minister to inspire future leaders, teachers and students from educational institutions across the country are being given opportunities to visit Parliament and observe its proceedings.

Under the programme, 127 students from Classes VI to X and 43 teachers from 45 educational institutions in Lalmai upazila visited the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

Organised by the Parliament Secretariat's Visit Section, the tour included visits to the South Plaza, LD Hall, the Parliament Library, the Crescent Lake and other parts of the Louis I Kahn-designed Parliament Complex. They also observed the ongoing budget session from the visitors' gallery.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the World Environment Day programme and Environment Fair 2026, reviewed the progress of decisions taken at the first meeting on Waqf affairs, attended the budget session in Parliament, held a meeting on the civil aviation and tourism sector and chaired a Cabinet meeting before meeting the students.
