Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday called on the people to extend their support to the government in building a ‘desired Bangladesh’.
“On this Eid day, I pray to Almighty Allah to bless us so that we can build the Bangladesh people expect,” he said while speaking to journalists after exchanging Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with diplomats and people from all walks of life at the State Guest House Jamuna.
The Prime Minister also sought prayers from the people and request their support in this regard.
“If we have your support, Insha’Allah, this elected government will do its utmost to build the country in line with your expectations,” he said.
The Prime Minister also extended Eid greetings to all regardless of political affiliation.
He paid deep tribute to those who sacrificed their lives and were injured in the 1971 Liberation War, as well as those who were martyred or injured in mass uprising in 2024.
Earlier, the Prime Minister exchanged Eid greetings with members of the diplomatic corps, politicians, distinguished citizens and people from different walks of life at Jamuna.
The programme began at 10am and continued until around 11:30am.
He also exchanged greetings with former Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus during the event.
In the morning, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the main congregation at the National Eidgah.
The prayers, led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, were held at around 8:34am.
Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, civil and military officials, and people from various walks of life joined the congregation.
The Eid prayers were organised by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), with separate arrangements for women.
Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, is being celebrated across the country.
This marks Tarique Rahman’s first Eid in Bangladesh in 18 years, after spending 17 years in London.
