"The prime minister also gave financial assistance of Tk 5 lakh to them," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said.
He said the prime minister sent donation of Tk 5 lakh through her officials to Nayeem Gauhar's ailing wife Rizia Gauhar at her Uttara residence on Thursday.
The press secretary said the prime minister in 2016 gave financial assistance of Tk 25 lakh to Nayeem Gauhar's family and directed the authorities concerned to give a plot or flat to them.
"But Nayeem Gauhar's family is yet to get the plot or flat due to various complexities. When the Prime Minister's attention was drawn to the matter, she immediately sent Tk 5 lakh to Gauhar's family," he said.
Karim said the prime minister simultaneously instructed the authorities concerned to hand over a plot or flat to the family of Nayeem immediately.
Gauhar's daughter actor Ilora Gauhar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the prime minister for standing beside their family again.
She said her 76-year-old mother is now bed-ridden as she has been suffering from cancer and Parkinson’s diseases.
Nayeem Gauhar died of old-age complications at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital on October 7, 2015 at the age of 93.
He was admitted to the BSMMU at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In 2000, he underwent an open heart surgery with the overall cooperation of the prime minister.
