Police were deployed at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) after junior officials confined Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood and several senior officials in their office on Wednesday to protest the forced retirement of Executive Director Saifur Rahman.
Junior officials at the BSEC locked the senior officials inside after noon, said Mirpur Police Station Sub-inspector Md Salauddin.
"There had been unrest inside since around 1 pm. The junior officials confined the chairman and others as a form of protest. However, we are not certain whether any unpleasant incidents took place inside," the SI said.

By the evening, all protestors had left the premises, but police remained deployed in front of the BSEC office for security. "We arrived as soon as we received the news, and we will remain here until further instructions," said the SI.
The protest followed an order issued on Tuesday by BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood, announcing Saifur Rahman’s retirement. Previously, after the appointment of new leadership at BSEC, Rahman had been made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) before being officially retired.
