A protest rally and human chain, organized by the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, were held in Thakurgaon against the increase in cold storage rental fees for potatoes.
Potato farmers formed the human chain and staged a protest in front of Ranisankail Upazila Parishad on Monday (February 17) at 11:30 am, protesting the hike in cold storage charges.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
Speakers at the human chain included Several potato farmers, Ranishankoil Upazila Krishak Dal President Mosharraf Hossain, BNP General Secretary Allama Al Wadud Bin Noor Alif, Upazila BNP Vice-President Khalilur Rahman, among others.
The speakers demanded a reduction in cold storage rental fees and warned of stricter movements if their demands were not met.
The farmers’ demands included reversing the increase in cold storage charges and ensuring fair prices for potatoes.
During the protest, potato farmers dumped potatoes on the paved road in front of the main gate of the Ranisankail Upazila Parishad while staging the human chain and demonstration.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Hasan received the memorandum from the farmers and assured them that their demands would be considered.
