President Abdul Hamid has expressed deep shock at the death of essayist, poet and former director-general of Bangla Academy Manzur-I-Mawla.
The 80-year-old poet was admitted to a private hospital in the city on December 5 after testing Covid-19 positive. He died there on Sunday while undergoing treatment.

Amar Ekushey Boi Mela was launched during Manzur-I-Mawla’s three-year tenure at Bangla Academy.

Abdul Hamid said, “The death of Manzur-I-Mawla is an irreparable loss for the literary arena of Bangladesh.”

The president also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of former Bangla Academy director-general.
