The Rangpur Divisional Women’s Sports Complex has finally begun operations, more than three years after its inauguration.
The complex began its activities on Thursday afternoon with a three-day divisional skating training camp for schoolgirls.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam inaugurated the training camp.
Shahidul Islam said activities at the women’s sports complex could not be launched earlier due to funding constraints.
“After various initiatives, we have finally been able to start its activities. I hope the complex will never have to close again because of a lack of funds,” he said.
The divisional commissioner urged the trainees to receive proper training and make Rangpur a champion in skating.
He also stressed the importance of good health and education, saying children should grow up to play a leading role in society.
After the inauguration, the girls took part in skating training.
The trainees expressed happiness at getting the opportunity to train at the complex after a long wait.
The National Sports Council took the initiative in 2017 to build the complex on 10 acres of land in the Uttam area of Rangpur city to promote and develop women’s sports in the eight districts of the division.
It was officially inaugurated on August 2, 2023.
