Dhaka, Apr 11 (UNB) – The High Court on Thursday ordered the Election Commission (EC) to register Ganosamhati Anodolon as political party within 30 days.
A bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order after hearing a rule seeking explanation as to why Ganosamhati Andolon will not be registered as a political party.
On November 11, last year, the rule was issued following a writ petition filed by Ganosamhati Andolon convener Zonayed Saki.
Barrister Jotirmoy Barua stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul represented the state.
On December 31, 2017, Ganosamhati Andolon applied to the EC for being registered as a political party which was rejected by the EC.
On September 23,2018 a legal notice was served on the EC seeking review of their decision but they failed to respond to the notice.
