A rickshaw puller was beaten by a mob at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on Friday afternoon while attempting to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his death anniversary.
The victim Azizur Rahman, 45, a resident of Ghorashal village under Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, had come to the area with a bouquet of flowers in hand.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around noon when Azizur attempted to approach the main road, ignoring a police barricade.
Seeing this, people stationed at the barricade stopped him and questioned his intentions.
During the interrogation, Azizur reportedly stated that he was not affiliated with any political party and had come solely out of respect for Bangabandhu. However, an argument ensued, and the crowd, growing agitated, physically assaulted him and attempted to force him away.
