A rickshaw puller was killed in Jashore town on Sunday night, in an incident locals suspect was a robbery.
The attack took place around 8:00 pm in the Sutighata area of the town.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir, 40, son of late Rajab Ali of Chanchra Bara Madrasha area under Jashore Sadar upazila. He had been living in a rented house in the city’s Jhumjhumpur area.
According to locals, unidentified miscreants allegedly killed him and fled with his rickshaw.
Passersby found Alamgir critically injured and rushed him to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Dr Hasib Al Hasan, an emergency department physician, said Alamgir suffered heavy head injuries and was brought dead to the hospital.
Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Babul of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station said police visited the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
Residents noted that a similar killing had occurred at the same location a few days earlier, spreading fear across the area.
