A former Union Parishad chairman was killed in a road accident in Chuadanga's Darshana upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Kasem, 75, former chairman of Karpasdanga Union Parishad. He was a resident of Aramdanga village of the upazila and son of Ahmed Ali Mondol.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm on Darshana-Mujibnagar road at Ramnagar junction of Darshana municipality, said Biplab Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) Darshana Police Station.
Eyewitnesses said that on the way to Darshana from his home in Alamdanga, Karpasdanga, he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a building on the side of the road.
Locals rescued and took him to the Darshana Mukti Clinic where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
On information, family members took the body to their home.
He served as a two-time chairman of the union parishad elected in 1992 and 2011.
