He came up with the information at a meeting of the sub-committee formed on the implementation of Road Transport Act at the secretariat.
Sub-Committee Convener and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan presided over the meeting while Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon, Former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, former State Minister for LGRD Moshiur Rahman Ranga and transport worker leaders were present at the meeting.
“We want the law to be acceptable by all. We’ll recommend amendment to the law, considering the inconveniences. If Road Transport Council wants then it could be sent for amendment,” said the minister.
Sub-Committee Convener and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said they will send the law to Road Transport Council with recommendations keeping consistency with the law of neighbouring countries.
The Road Transport Bill, 2018 was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018 keeping a provision of maximum five years' imprisonment and Tk 5 lakh fine or both for causing severe injuries or any death of any person due to reckless driving.
