State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury on Wednesday said roads and public institutions across Bangladesh will be named after the July martyrs in recognition of their sacrifices.

Speaking at the inauguration of a free medical camp in memory of the July martyrs at Duldul Camp in the Patgudam area of Mymensingh city, he said every upazila in the country would have roads and institutions named after the martyrs.

He said the sacrifices of the July martyrs made it possible for the current democratic government to come to power through what he described as a free and fair election.

The state minister said the BNP would continue to stand by the families of the July martyrs and that the government had taken various initiatives to provide them with support and benefits. He added that the programmes would be implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Recalling the anti-government movement, Yasser Khan said the BNP and its allies had carried out a prolonged struggle alongside the people for 15 to 16 years to establish democracy. He said the 2024 student-led mass movement paved the way for the country's democratic transition.

He prayed for the departed souls of those killed during the movement and wished a speedy recovery for those injured, reiterating the government's commitment to supporting the affected families.

The free medical camp was organised with the support of former Mymensingh city unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Naimul Karim Luin and the organisation's current General Secretary Al Rafsan Samir.

Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Rukunuzzaman Rokon, Mymensingh city BNP Joint Convener Prof Sheikh Amjad Ali and leaders of BNP, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jatiyatabadi Matsyajibi Dal, among others, attended the programme.

More than 300 underprivileged people received free medical treatment and medicines at the camp organised by student leaders Minhajul Abedin Nijhum, Maruf Sarwar Rubel and Saidur Rahman Sayeed.
