Rotary Club handed over a cheque worth of US$ 52,988 under Rotary International’s The Rotary Foundation Global Grant to icddr,b at an event held at icddr,b’s Mohakhali campus on Tuesday, said a press release.
According to the agreement, with Rotary Club’s funding support, icddr,b will strengthen personal protection for the healthcare workers and researchers working at its two project sites at the FDMN camps for Rohingya communities.
On the occasion, Tahsina Rahman, President of Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks, appreciated icddr,b’s Covid-19 response initiatives.
She said, “In partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, icddr,b has been at the forefront of the Covid-19 response in Bangladesh from research to care. We feel proud to be a part of their outstanding response in Teknaf. We look forward to have further collaboration with icddr,b’s Covid-19 response in Bangladesh.”
icddr,b’s acting Executive Director Dr Tahmeed Ahmed thanked Rotary Club for their support. “During this pandemic, protecting our healthcare workers is our top priority. The support is indeed very helpful for us to stay ahead of coronavirus and ramp up our care.”
Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Emeritus Scientist at icddr,b along with representatives from Rotary Club and icddr,b were also present at the cheque handover ceremony.
