Locals said Samrat took shelter in the house of Munir Chowdhury with the help of Ismail Hossain Bachchu, former chairman of Alkora Union Parishad, from where he was scheduled to go to India.
Golam Faruk Helal, chairman of Alkora Union Parishad, said Munir Chowdhury was an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir and now he is known as a Jamaat leader.
Pranab Kumar, acting commander of Rab-11, Cumilla, said Rab cordoned off Munir’s house on Saturday evening.
Around 5 am on Sunday, the Rab members arrested Samrat and his associate Anamul Haque Arman from the house “on specific allegation”, said Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem, director, legal and media wing of Rab.
The elite force later conducted a drive at Samrat’s Kakrail office in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Jubo League Executive Committee on Sunday expelled Samrat and Arman, vice-president of the unit, for their ‘unsocial and anti-party activities’.
