At least 15 people, including police personnel, were injured in a series of clashes between garment workers and police in Ullail and Hemayetpur areas of Savar on Wednesday.
The workers blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway for nearly an hour, demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage to Tk 30,000.
Police said workers from different garment factories gathered on the highway in the morning and staged a blockade. They also threw brickbats at Al-Muslim Garments.
At one stage, the workers hurled brickbats at police, prompting the law enforcers to fire tear gas shells in self-defence to disperse them.
Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Aricha highway remained suspended for nearly an hour from around 9:30am due to the blockade.
Clashes broke out between workers and police at Hemayetpur where the situation remained tense.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) maintained a cautious presence along the highway from the morning and reached the spots to help bring the situation under control.
Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station Saiful Alam said law enforcement agencies are working to bring the situation under control.
No untoward incident was reported from Ashulia so far.
