Brig Gen A K M Nasir Uddin, director of the DMCH, told UNB that Dr Monzoor Rashid Chowdhury breathed his last at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital around 11:00am. He was tested COVID-19 positive.
Dr Monzoor, who obtained MBBS degree from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, was a senior consultant of the DMCH Urology department and he went on leave preparatory to retirement (LPR) one year ago, the Director of the DMCH said.
Meanwhile, with the death of Dr Monzoor, the number of death of total physicians due to COVID-19 tested positive rose to 11 till Tuesday, Dr Nirupam Das, the chief administrator of Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF) told UNB.
Besides, three more doctors had died due to suspected COVID-19, he added.
The country on Tuesday saw the biggest jump in coronavirus cases in a day with the detection of record 2,911 new cases in the span of 24 hours which took the total number of confirmed cases to 52,445.
During the same period 37 more patients died due to deadly COVID-19, raising the death toll to 709.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.
