He had been undergoing treatment at a clinic run by his doctor sister and her husband at Mohishbathan of the city. 

“Andrew Kishore breathed his last at 6:55pm at the clinic,” said his brother-in-law Dr Patrik Bipul Biswas.

Earlier, Andrew Kishore was put on life support as his condition deteriorated.

The singer was undergoing treatment at the clinic after returning from Singapore, Biswas added.  

Along with cancer, he suffered from kidney and hormone-related issues.

In a Facebook post on Sunday night, his wife said her husband was not speaking. The last stage of cancer is agonising, she wrote and requested the people of countr to pray for him.

Kishore had been battling cancer since September last year and returned home on June 11 this year.

His acquaintance, singer Momin Biswas, also informed about Kishore’s latest physical condition in a Facebook Live session on Sunday.

He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system. He received several chemotherapies during his nine-month battle with cancer.

Explaining his condition, Momin said on June 8, doctors in Singapore informed Kishore that he is out of cancer-related complications.

However, he felt extremely unwell on June 9 and after re-evaluating his condition, doctors informed him on June 10 that his cancer had returned.

He did not want to continue living in Singapore anymore and returned home on June 11 by a special flight.

After spending a week at his Mirpur residence, Andrew Kishore decided to move to Rajshahi and has been living there since then.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several noted music artists-celebrities provided financial assistance during his treatment.

Andrew Kishore’s songs--  Dak Diyachhen Doyal Amare, Jiboner Golpo Achhe Baki Olpo, Haire Manush Rongin Phanush, Amar Shara Deho Kheyo Go Mati, Amar Buker Moddhe Khane and Amar Babar Mukhe Prothom Jedin Shunechhilam Gaan --among many others evergreen songs will ever be there in the hearts of Bengali people. 

Expressing deep shock at the demise of legendary singer Andrew Kishore, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, prayed for his eternal peace.

He also expressed his profound sympathy for  the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Food Minister, Agriculture Minister, Environment Minister, Law Minister, Land Minister, Commerce Minister, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister, State Minister and Minister of Industries Ministry, State Ministers for Shipping Ministry, Relief and Disaster Management Ministry of Housing and Public Works as well as Mayors of Dhaka North and South City Corporations also expressed deep shock at the death of  Andrew Kishore, a singer of hundreds of classic songs.

“Andrew Kishore will live in the hearts of Bengali people for years with his classic songs,” Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said.

Andrew Kishore had stayed active in the music industry for over four decades with popularity, the minister said, adding that his songs awakened the subtle notion of human being which is unforgettable.

Andrew Kishore was born on November 4, 1955 in Rajshahi.
