Police in Chuadanga have arrested two men in connection with the deaths of 6 people who consumed toxic spirit sold under the guise of homeopathic treatment.
A joint operation by Chuadanga Sadar Police, the Cyber Investigation Cell, and DB intelligence led to the arrest of Faruk Hossain, also known as Alco Faruk, 40, from Rangiarpota village in Jhenaidah, and Zumat Ali, 46, from Khejura village in Chuadanga Sadar.
Authorities also recovered 117 bottles of alcohol/toxic spirit used in homeopathic treatment.
Chuadanga Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Operation) Jamal Al Naser confirmed the arrests on Thursday afternoon.
A case was filed at Sadar Police Station by the brother of victim Laltu Mia.
Faruk admitted to selling unlicensed alcohol and spirit for homeopathic use over a long period.
Police are continuing their hunt for others involved in the incident.
The deaths occurred in Dingedeh area of Chuadanga Sadar after a group drank the toxic spirit on the night of October 10.
Six of them died in hospital on October 12, bringing attention to the tragedy.
