The Directorate of Posts on Wednesday released a Tk 40 souvenir sheet, an envelope of Tk 10, a Tk 5 data card and a special seal stamp marking the Constitution Day of Bangladesh.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated them from his office.
On November 4, 1972, Bangladesh adopted its Constitution and it was effective from December 16 that year.
It provided the framework of the Bangladeshi republic with a parliamentary government, fundamental human rights and freedoms, an independent judiciary, a democratic local government and a national bureaucracy.
Since 1972, November 4 has been celebrated as Constitution Day.
Minister Jabbar said the constitution of Bangladesh is one of the best in the world. “Bangabandhu has set a unique example by giving us a constitution so quickly after independence,” he said.
The main characteristics of the state are described in the Constitution. “It was possible for an undisputed statesman like Bangabandhu to formulate a constitution for the newly independent Bangladesh in nine months,” Jabbar said.
The souvenir sheet and envelope will be available at the Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO from Wednesday and it will be gradually made available in all GPO’s across the country.
