High Commissioner H.E. Dharmapala Weerakkody on Sunday said there is immense potential for the development and cooperation of the tourism sector between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
"This type of initiative will serve as a milestone for the growth of the tourism industry in both nations,” said at a special 'Media Networking Session' which was held in the capital to strengthen tourism ties and enhance coordination between tourism stakeholders of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
The event was organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) on Sunday afternoon at the 'Kuakata' Hall of Le Méridien Dhaka.
The session was presided over by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, while Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, and Mohammad Rafuzzaman, President of the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), were present as special guests.
Alongside, a special destination presentation was showcased during the event, highlighting Sri Lanka's diverse attractions, luxury travel facilities, family travel options, and improved air connectivity and accommodation facilities between the two countries.
Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of SLTPB, noted that Sri Lanka is currently recognized as one of the safest and most attractive tourism destinations worldwide. He emphasized that more affordable packages and enhanced services are now being ensured for Bangladeshi tourists.
TOAB President Mr. Mohammad Rafuzzaman praised the initiative for fostering mutual relationships among tourism professionals and expressed hope for future collaborative efforts.
The second half of the programme featured an interactive Q&A session with media representatives. Discussions focused on tourism prospects, airline connectivity, and various facilities available for travelers in Sri Lanka.
On the other hand, an exclusive 'B2B Roadshow' and Networking Evening for tourism trade partners will be held tomorrow, April 6, at the Grand Ballroom of the same hotel.
Leading media professionals, tourism experts, and a high-level delegation from Sri Lanka will attend the event, which will conclude with a networking dinner.
