The Stipendium Hungaricum Alumni Meetup-Dhaka was held on Thursday at the Dhaka Liaison Office of the Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Bangladesh in Banani, bringing together alumni, Hungarian diplomatic representatives and distinguished guests.
Dr Diana Daczi, Counsellor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi, attended the event, travelling from the embassy to join the gathering.
Dr Evelin Oltean-Polanek, Consul at the Dhaka Office of the Embassy of Hungary, and Mokhlesur Rahman Talukdar, Honorary Consul of Hungary in Bangladesh, were also present, along with Stipendium Hungaricum alumni and other guests.
The meetup provided a platform for alumni and diplomatic representatives to exchange experiences, strengthen professional networks and promote academic and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Hungary.
The gathering also highlighted the role of scholarship programmes in developing future leaders, professionals and researchers while deepening educational cooperation and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The Government of Hungary currently offers 140 scholarships annually to Bangladeshi students under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, covering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies.
The fully funded scholarships cover tuition fees and include accommodation support, healthcare coverage and a monthly living allowance. Applicants can choose from more than 660 study programmes offered by Hungarian universities.
The Dhaka Office of the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi, located in Gulshan-2, opened in July 2022 to strengthen Hungary's diplomatic presence in Bangladesh and facilitate engagement with local stakeholders.
The office also serves as a point of contact for Bangladeshi students seeking information and assistance regarding higher education opportunities in Hungary. Students can also submit their visa applications there.
The Stipendium Hungaricum programme continues to support educational cooperation between Bangladesh and Hungary, while its alumni network helps sustain academic exchanges, share experiences and build lasting bilateral relationships.
