“If any official or local public representative is found involved in corruption while distributing relief materials will face tough action. If necessary, they’ll be fired and criminal cases will be filed against them,” he warned while talking to journalists at his residence.
Pointing at the notice issued on Saturday from LGRD Ministry in this regard, the minister said reports on corruption by officials and public representatives during relief distribution came in the media and social media platforms recently.
Minister Tajul said many people in cities and villages have lost their livelihood thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.
Different ministries, departments, institutions have been distributing relief—rice, cash, baby food and others—and local public representatives and officials have got involved in distributing those, he added.
He urged all the deputy commissioners to send reports on corruption with evidence to the ministry.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed 482 coronavirus cases and 30 deaths from the highly infectious virus as of Saturday.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the highly infectious disease reached 100,000 on Saturday.
