The victim Shakil Ahmed, 14, a 9th grader of Sonahata High School, died after falling from the roof of the under-construction-two storied building at Sonahata bazar of Nimgachhi union under the Dhunot upazila of Bogura.
The deceased is the son of farmer Abdul Wahed Box of village Satbeki.
Witnesses said that the siblings Morshed Fakir and Sana Fakir of village Nandiarpara have a two-storied under-construction commercial building at Charmatha of Sonahata bazar. There were various business establishments and Grameen Bank’s Nimgachhi branch at the ground floor of the building. Construction work was going on in the second floor.
Local teenagers and youths used to gossip frequently on the roof of the building. At 11 am on Wednesday, Shakil Ahmed went up to the rooftop of the building along with his two friends.
After a while, Shakil fell down from the roof of the 1st floor. At this time, he touched an electric wire to save his life. During the incident, his two friends got down from the roof and ran from the scene.
Local people rescued Shakil from the place of occurrence in critical condition. Later, he was admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. He was kept at ICU after his condition deteriorated.
Shakil Ahmed died at 8pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
Sabed Ali, grandfather of the deceased, informed that “At the moment, we cannot tell as to how Shakil fell down from the roof. We could not even know who were along with him at the time of the incident.”
Meanwhile, Ismail Hossain, OC of Dhunot police station, said, “Police rushed to the spot after knowing that a student was injured. Local people have been interrogated in this connection. The school student died while undergoing treatment in Bogura. After probing into the incident, police will take necessary measures.”
