The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has expressed profound concern and strong condemnation over the brutal public killing of journalist Md. Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur.
In a media statement on Friday, DUJ President Sajjad Alam Khan Topu and General Secretary Akhter Hossain said that such a murder is not acceptable in any way in a civilized country.
The journalist leaders underscored the nationwide shock that followed this merciless attack and voiced distress over the lack of a swift response from law enforcement: the killers had not been arrested even 24 hours after the crime.
They mentioned that this delay has left the entire journalist community feeling vulnerable and insecure about their safety.
DUJ emphasised that ensuring independent journalism requires justice—calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible and demanding exemplary punishment, along with the assurance of a secure working environment for media professionals across Bangladesh.
Tuhin, 39, a staff reporter of Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, was hacked to death in public by a group of armed men near Chowrasta on Thursday night.
