The deceased were identified as Shanta Begum, 3, daughter of Jasad, Rahitunnesa, 35, wife of Aroj Ali, her daughter Tahmina Begum, 11, Asad Mia, 5, son of Afzal Hossain, and his mother Azirul Begum, 35, Karima Bibi, 78, wife of Nasibulla of Masimpur village.
Quoting witnesses, police said, 10 people went missing when a boat carrying 31 people sank in the Kaliakuta haor amid storm while going to Perua village on Tuesday evening.
Belayet Hossain, additional superintendent of police, said 10 people, including six children, went missing after the boat capsized in the waterbody while 21 managed to swim ashore.
Police recovered the bodies of four people on Tuesday night.
They were Shamim, 2, son of Babul, Abir, 3, son of Badrul of Masimpur village, Shahidul Islam, 8, son of Firoz Ali of Perua vilalge and Sohan, son of Afzal Hossain of Noagram village in the upazila.
Acting Executive Officer of Dirai upazila Biswajit Deb said local administration provided Tk 10,000 to each family of the deceased for burial.
