A suspended accounts officer of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) died after falling from the 7th floor of a residential building in the capital's Ramna area early Thursday while allegedly attempting to evade arrest during a police operation.
The deceased was identified as Md Nazrul Islam, 56, who lived with his family in Flat B-8 of Rangs Garden Palace on the Siddheswari Road.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station Yasin Mia said police went to Nazrul's residence to execute an arrest warrant issued by the Gazipur District and Sessions Judge's Court.
Sensing the presence of police, Nazrul allegedly attempted to flee through a small window gate attached to the bedroom of his apartment despite repeated warnings from police, he said.
He fell from the building during the attempt around 1:00am and sustained critical injuries, the OC said.
Police immediately took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died around 2:30am, he added.
Following an autopsy, the body was handed over to his family.
