Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli paid a courtesy call on Opposition Leader Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman at his office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday where they discussed Bangladesh’s post-election situation, bilateral investment and democratic governance.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the overall political and economic situation in Bangladesh following the national election, as well as opportunities to strengthen investment ties between Bangladesh and Switzerland.
The Swiss Ambassador reiterated Switzerland’s firm support for Bangladesh and expressed optimism that Swiss investment in the country would continue to increase in the coming years.
Renggli also underscored the importance of strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Bangladesh, according to a press release .
The meeting further focused on the Rohingya crisis and human rights issues, with both sides highlighting the positive role that opposition parties and civil society can play in addressing such challenges.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman called on Switzerland to expand its engagement with Bangladesh in areas including green energy, bilateral trade and other sectors of mutual interest.
