Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has directed police officials in Sylhet to accelerate efforts to improve law and order in the city, emphasizing that Sylhet should serve as a model for the entire country.
Speaking at a coordination meeting with Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) officers on Tuesday, the minister said the city would soon be equipped with advanced IP camera surveillance to help prevent crime.
“Despite limited resources, we must work with utmost sincerity using the capacities we have. Police need to play a more active and effective role in maintaining law and order,” he said.
The meeting, chaired by SMP Commissioner Abdul Khuddus Chowdhury PPM, also featured remarks from Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, who expressed commitment to building Sylhet as a peaceful and terror-free city.
Minister Muktadir assured that steps would be taken to provide adequate vehicles, housing facilities, and other support to make police operations more efficient.
Other attendees included District Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam, additional commissioners of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (North and South), acting president of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Rezaul Hasan Qoyes Lodi, and general secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury. Senior police officials, including deputy commissioners and officers-in-charge of various police stations, were also present at the SMP headquarters.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety in Sylhet.
