Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed said the man came home at Chhoto Boyra Karimnagar in Khulna city on April 4 after a 120-day congregation and he was found positive for the virus on Monday in the test conducted at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
Family sources said he went to different parts of the country, including Narayanganj, during the Tablighi Jamaat.
“This is the first coronavirus case in Khulna,” the civil surgeon said, adding that the local administration kept the house of the man under lockdown.
On April 7, KMCH started the test to detect coronavirus infection using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine.
The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) provided training to seven physicians of KMCH while 700 testing kits have already arrived at the hospital.
