Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Tuesday ordered the senior police officers to take measures to prevent price hikes of essential commodities.
Besides, he also said that a vested quarter wants to try increasing the price of goods by syndicate.
The IGP came up with the comment while addressing the monthly (December 2023) crime review meeting held at the Hall of Pride of Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
The chief of the Bangladesh police has also given instructions for the speedy disposal of important cases through regular monitoring. He, however, expressed satisfaction with increasing the rate of punishment in the case.
The IGP said that the Bangladesh Police has been able to perform its duties professionally in conducting the 12th National Assembly elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Bangladesh Police is now able to face any challenge. As a result, people's confidence, trust, and expectations towards the police have increased, he added.
The Police Chief called upon the police officers to perform their duties more diligently to fulfil the expectations of the people.
During the meeting, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam reviewed the overall crime situation in December 2023, such as robbery, dacoity, theft, burglary, murder, unnatural death, road accidents, abuse of women and children, rape, and the recovery of lost mobile phones and drugs.
Besides, he also presented information related to the case of the recovery of weapons and the warrant of sentence, among others.
Additional IGP (Administration) Md. Kamrul Ahsan, PBI Additional IGP Banaj Kumar Majumder, CID Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, and all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, and concerned officials of Police Headquarters participated. District Superintendents of Police attended the meeting online.
