A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Tati Dal, an associate body of the BNP, was hacked to death by miscreants at his business establishment in the Rayermahal area of Khulna city on Sunday evening.
The deceased, Syed Humayun Kabir, 46, was a joint convener of the Khulna city unit of Tati Dal. He was the son of Anwar Hossain and a resident of Rayermahal.
The incident took place around 7pm at his business establishment behind the Boro Mosque in the area.
Locals said a group of assailants armed with sharp weapons attacked Humayun Kabir and repeatedly hacked him in different parts of his body, including his chest.
He was rushed to the emergency department of Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Syed Shahjahan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khalishpur Police Station under Khulna Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident.
