A three-day bootcamp aimed at enhancing media and information literacy (MIL), digital safety and constructive dialogue skills among university students concluded in Khulna on Saturday.
The bootcamp, jointly organised by Wave Foundation, began on May 15 at Hotel City Inn in Khulna and ended on the afternoon of May 17.
A total of 30 students from four clubs of two universities in Khulna participated in the programme titled “MIL, Digital Safety and Constructive Dialogue with University Students.” The participating clubs included Khulna University Journalists Association (KUJA), Toward Sustainability Khulna University Network, Debating Club-Naiyaik and JMC Club of Northern University of Business and Technology Khulna.
The programme was conducted by five fellows under supervision, focusing on increasing awareness and skills to address digital challenges faced by young people, including misinformation, hate speech, online harassment, rumours and doxxing against women. Participants were trained on fact-checking techniques, responsible expression of opinions and constructive dialogue.
A participant of the bootcamp, Ratul Khan, said the training helped students understand not only fact-checking techniques but also the importance of responsible online behaviour and constructive discussions with people holding different opinions. He said the skills gained through the programme would be useful in both personal and professional life.
