Three workers sustained burn injuries as an air-conditioner (AC) exploded while it was being repaired in the city’s Islampur on Monday.
The injured workers were identified as Ashiqur Rahman Ashik, 20, Ariful Islam Arif, 18, and Alamin, 24.
The incident took place at around 5:45 pm when an old AC was being repaired on the rooftop of a 12-storied building Lion Tower at Islampur, said Jahid, another worker of the building.
The three workers were welding the pipe of the compressor when the AC exploded leaving them injured, he told reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Later, the injured workers were rushed to the Burn Unit of the DMCH.
Inspector Bachhu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said Ashik received 40 percent burn injuries, while Arif 14 percent and Alamin 12 percent. They are undergoing treatment in the burn unit of the hospital, he said.
