State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam presided over the meeting held at the ministry's conference room, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
The five-year afforestation programme, a key election pledge of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's government, aims to plant 25 crore trees to address environmental degradation and climate change challenges, the release said.
Focal point officials from various ministries presented updated progress reports on the ongoing plantation drive during the meeting.
To ensure precise, data-based monitoring of saplings, officials said the "Tree Monitoring App" would be rolled out shortly, allowing authorities to track the programme's implementation in real time.
The meeting was attended by Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change (with the status of secretary) and technical expert; Professor Nurul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University; and technical expert Jamail Bashir.
Senior officials of the environment ministry and focal point representatives from different ministries were also present.
