The trial runs of trains on the newly built Jamuna Railway Bridge over the Jamuna River with a maximum speed of 120 km per hour were conducted successfully on Sunday.
Two trains successfully ran on the bridge at 9:20am on Sunday, said the Chief Side Engineer of the Jamuna Railway Bridge, Md Mainul Islam.
The construction work of the Jamuna Railway Bridge started in August 2020, involving Tk 9734.7 crore and later the expenditure stood at Tk 16,780.96 crore.
Of the total expenditure, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided Tk 12,149.2 crore as loan.
The duration of the construction work of the bridge was set from July 2016 to 2023 but it was extended till December 2024.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the construction of the railway bridge over the Jamuna River in December 6, 2016.
Last November 26, the first trial run of a train over Jamuna Railway Bridge was conducted with a maximum speed of 40 km per hour.
